Construction Manager

Key Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Maintain contractor performance, budget, schedule and quality of construction activities (field reporting / permitting, compliance monitoring of contractors, ensure work activities performed in accordance with contract documents, scope of work, and governing regulations).
  • Plan, monitor, evaluate, advise and report on all construction activities; validate contractor progress and ensure mitigation plans are developed.
  • Coordinate contractors, suppliers, and operational groups as applicable.
  • Provide field management and support worksite administration requirements including management of change, quality monitoring, materials management, and project controls.
  • Develop ongoing risk assessments and mitigations.
  • Participate in HSE planning activities including hazard identification, hazards and operability (HAZOPs) and critical task planning.
  • Organize and hold lessons learned sessions to identify information sharing opportunities.
  • Collaborate with commissioning and start-up teams to effectively achieve completion, turn over systems, and achieve turnover of care, custody and control.
  • Monitor third-party agreements for timely execution of project.
  • Ensure all work performed by the contractor is done in a safe, environmentally sound manner and in accordance with approved design and specifications of the highest quality.
  • Support and assist in the incident investigation process.
  • Ensure all work permits are in place, complete with the necessary checklists / supporting data, and have been completed by trained and competent individuals.
  • Ensure a site-specific safety plan is developed prior to construction start.
  • Review and approve daily and extra charges, ensuring contractor utilizes resources optimally.
  • Review contractors request changes and make recommendations to Construction Manager to ensure scope changes are in accordance with Contract Terms and Conditions.
  • Be familiar with details of the contracts and monitor contract deliverables; accordingly, review and understand contracts, pricing, terms and conditions, special conditions and any applicable qualifications.
  • Offer practical advice or possible resolution for items of concern that may arise during construction, equipment installation and commissioning phases of the project.
  • Manage execution of fieldwork directives to the contractor as required.
  • Ensure contractor continuously maintains up to-date as-built drawings of construction project.
  • Ensure material receiving, handling and storage procedures are followed.
  • Attend periodic progress meetings with contractors.
  • Responsible for receipt of Field Change Notices (FCN) and validation with project team; work to ensure change orders are issued and approved in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the periodic meeting with contractors and field staff to validate schedule progress.


Qualifications - Education, Skills and Experience:
  • 8-10+ years construction experience with a minimum of 5 years in a supervision role.
  • Journeyperson (Electrician, Instrumentation, Pipefitter, Boilermaker, Millwright), Red Seal or a technical diploma and recognized training in Construction Management.
  • Expertise with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Soft skills – such as communication, multi tasking, shifting priorities, meeting deadlines, leading, managing, coaching, organizing, customer services, teamwork, collaboration, etc.
